Mail Magic
Eelco told me a while back that he forwards his email accounts on zengoku.com to his Google account. I have been looking into this, and decided I would do the same thing for morannon.org.

Furthermore, I found out that Hotmail supports POP access. So I configured my GMail to fetch my Hotmail mails via POP. It is now fetching over 1700 mails from Hotmail, and still going as I am writing this blog. :D Yahoo Japan provides a similar POP service, so I added my Yahoo Japan account to my GMail as well. Now it is fetching over 1300 mails. :D

After using Evolution for a while for my work's email, I noticed it is verrrrrry slow with filtering emails. So I decided on Mozilla Thunderbird. Very nice and pretty fast. I looked at its account options and noticed GMail. That option did not do what I wanted though, so I checked if GMail supports IMAP, and yes it does. So I added an IMAP account in Thunderbird that checks my GMail account. My Hotmail is coming into my GMail, my Yahoo Japan is coming into my GMail, and my morannon.org address is being forwarded to my GMail too, so now I am getting all my mails in one place, in my own Thunderbird. I am very happy.

Next thing I am going to play with is PGP, Pretty Good Privacy, which I want to use for my morannon.org address. This means I can sign my emails with my key. People who have my public key, can verify that the signed email is indeed from me, which ensures email identity. We can take this process a step further by encrypting the email. People who have my public key, can open and read the contents of my email. People who do not have my public key, will not be able to read the contents of my email. This ensures email security. Of course, when composing emails, I can tell Thunderbird whether to sign or encrypt my email or not. It is nice to have this choice.

So when will I get your Gmailaddress instead of your morannon.org emailaddress? =D

Well that's good. I already use Gmail to gather my e-mails from my other e-mai accounts and as you just said, using Firefox, it's much more faster than if you use Internet Explorer. As for PGP, I already used it in the past and it's not as good as it should be. When both people have the key to unlock then open the message on the other end, sometimes the message will not even open or it will be not really readable. I found out that the encryption process was very poor. The encryption key was just only 128 bit and it's not really that powerful as the 512 bit that most banks use (half of them still use the 256 bit key). By the way, if you use a Blackberry device, then you can feel more secure because the encryption process works even much more better than PGP.

When I look in my Thunderbird's PGP extension, I see it can create keys with sizes 1024, 2048 and 4096, and use DSA or RSA encryption. I am not much of a security expert, but it works fine for me :)

I have also noticed Thunderbird doesn't like big emails encrypted. I received one such mail with attachments, and Thunderbird could not read it. So I had the sender send it with the attachments encrypted separately. Thunderbird recognized that and in the attachment context menu, it had the option "Decrypt and save as..." which I quite like.

Well, Thunderbird is a lot better despite of some lack in its fonctions. But I like it more than this f**k Internet Explorer he he
